A photo of you, not an ID picture

Your profile picture is the first thing a recruiter looks at, often before your name. In my studio in Montreux I make an image that is sharp, well lit and — above all — recognisable: the one where the people who know you say that is exactly you, not the one where you look posed.

How it works

Four steps, from your message to the delivered files.

We set a date

Write using the form at the bottom of this page, or call. We agree on a slot and I tell you what to bring depending on the purpose — job hunting, company website, freelance profile.

We talk first

The first few minutes are for settling in, not for photographing. Most people say they hate having their picture taken; almost always it is because nobody ever gave them time to relax.

The session

Several lighting setups, several framings, two or three outfits if you brought them. We look at the screen as we go and adjust whatever bothers you.

Selection and retouching

You choose your favourites. I retouch them with restraint: skin cleaned up, light balanced, but your face stays yours. A profile picture that doesn't look like you works against you on the day of the interview.

Getting ready

Three things that matter more than the equipment.

What to wear

  • Plain colours rather than patterns, which pull the eye before your face does
  • Bring two or three tops: we compare them on screen
  • Dress as you would for an interview in your field, not more formally
  • Avoid pure white and deep black, which harden the result

Expression

  • A slight smile reads better than a broad one on a professional profile
  • The eyes matter more than the mouth: that is where sincerity shows
  • Come rested — a good night does more for your face than retouching
  • If you wear glasses, bring them: they are part of you

What to avoid

  • A cropped holiday photo, still the most common thing on LinkedIn
  • A selfie, however good: the focal length distorts the face
  • A picture more than five years old, or taken before a noticeable change
  • A busy background that tells a different story than yours

Frequently asked questions

What people ask most before booking.

How long does the session last?
Around 45 minutes, with no strict limit. The price covers the whole session: we stop when you have the picture you wanted, not when a timer goes off.
How many photos do I get?
Two retouched photos are included in the CHF 150. If you want more, it is CHF 10 per image for basic retouching (colours, exposure, sharpness, crop) and CHF 20 for beauty retouching, which adds skin work.
Where is the studio?
Rue du Temple 37, 1820 Montreux, in the centre of town. Vevey, Lausanne and the rest of the Swiss Riviera are a few minutes away by train or car.
Do I need to wear makeup?
Not necessarily. Tidy hair and light makeup help on a photo meant to last several years; if you would rather be looked after, a hair and makeup option is available — just mention it when booking.
Can you photograph a whole team?
Yes, that is common for company websites and partner profiles. For several colleagues, send me the number of people and your deadline and I will put together a suitable proposal.
Will the photo be the right format for LinkedIn?
Files are delivered in high resolution. The square crop LinkedIn expects, as well as a vertical format for a CV, can be prepared on request — just say what the photo is for during the session.
What if I hate being photographed?
That is what most people tell me when they walk in. It is precisely the job: putting at ease someone who is not a model, and waiting for the moment the expression becomes natural.
Looking for a freer portrait, for yourself rather than for a CV? See the studio portrait session, half a day at CHF 300. Expecting a baby or photographing the family? See maternity & family.
